This one was tricky enough to get on top of but satisfying in that tactics were more important that high speed trigger action. Docking in those spinning things was just about the hardest thing you had to master to stay in the game. On the first level you could dock and recharge at will but on the higher levels you would get to a power tower station only to discover it wasn't active. grrr. Th game was a lot easier if you bothered to draw a map or had a very good memory.. It was a good idea to first destroy all those ?? birds that flew in convoy across the top of the space and yes the staaaaarrr glider was the target to go for. from rainbird rainbird rainbird.

Well, it's not the most efficient way of playing this game if you just go for the walkers (the big ones - "stompers" - bring more point though than the small ones). The Starglider (that thing looking like a large bird) is the prey you want to hunt for., worth 7,500 points. You need a missile though (can be found in those rotating silos already mentioned where you also get your shields replenished, IIRC). For refuelling, you need to find an arrangement of three towers and fly slowly and closely to the ground in the direction of these moving lines on the ground.

Yes there is an objective to the game. Destroy the walkers. There are square walkers and pointy walkers. You must use your missiles to destroy the walkers. To replenish your missiles, land in one of the rotating silos. You have to fly into the hole of the rotating silos, which is difficult because they are rotating! :) I remember I would play a single game for DAYS! To do this, I would recharge my power by flying along the power lines. Everything else is rechargable in the rotating silos. You can stay 'parked' in the silo all night, and then in the morning continue your mission. As long as you don't destroy the walkers you can keep playing on the same level. If you get to level 3 or 4, there are so many ships coming at you it is very difficult to concentrate on the walkers! Score: 11 of 10. The only other games that came close to this was: Time Bandits, Major Motion, Celestial Cearism (sp?), and of course the Sierra adventure games.

staaaaaaaaaaarrrrrr... wait someone already did that :). Great space shooter, very dark and foreboding. I just remember blasting everything on sight, I'm not sure if that was the point or not...

Incredible! The thrill and excitement of classic games like Starglider can never be matched. I believe I did complete it, not that I'm bragging...

Could someone please tell me what you actually had to do in this game. I just used to float about shooting stuff and those big things with the two legs (see screen shot). But there seemed to be no goal, did anyone out there actually complete it?

You can download the game from Automation disk 60(ftp://ftp.cs.tu-berlin.de/pub/atari/games/Automation/A_060.ST). You can see Power Pack instructions from http://www.geocities.com/yotisrx7/PowerPack.html#Starglider.

I used to love this, such a moody game. Very involving.

Actually this one was the first computer game I ever saw in my life. I remeber the day as if it were yesterday when my brother hook the ST to the family TV to play Starglider in the living room. Hard 3D Shooter but worth a try. ST classic!
