Simply one of the greatest games ever! Reached level 140+ after devoting an entire day to see how far I could get. Great multiplayer action, great atmosphere, cracking gameplay. Hours & hours of arcade fun! Long live Gauntlet II.

I played this for ages, mainly because I wanted to see what the secret levels looked like - there were hints and tips during the game, that you were supposed to save your super shots and so forth. In the end I played up to level 100 and reached the secret area twice in that time. I remember seeing bits of some of the levels that I couldn't enter. I also remember playing the arcade machine, and being impressive with how close this conversion was.

This was one of the few games (I played) that used the ST 4 Player multitap that stuck in the printer port. (The only other one that springs to mind is 'Leatherneck', but I'm sure there were others). My friends and I used to have 4 player tournaments of this all the time, but we generally got hung up on the 'Tag' levels rather than progressing through the game.. (BTW - do any Gauntlet games have a 'final level' ?? )

The first arcade perfect ST game I remember. Pure bliss. Like everyone else, I played this for weeks on end, with friends and without. Why couldn't all arcade game translations be as good as this on the ST?

This was a brilliant game. So much fun with multiple players. "HA! TAKE THAT!" you would scream as you trapped your friend in the corner of the screen with a death. Or the manic games of IT when one of you touched the spinning disc. You always ended up friends though, because unlimited credits meant that you could always come back and just play indefinitely. A classic game. I checked out some of the sounds that GauntletBoy mentioned and it brought back memories. In retrospect it sounds like Stephen Hawking is the Dungeon Master.

Was it this version of Gautlet that had the poisonous food/health - either oxo or xox written on it...

I bought this game for my first 520STM, and when I later upgraded to an 1040STFM, I was quite surprised... for the double-sided drive it contained an animated introduction. :) It became even better after that!

This is the first game I had on my Atari 520 ST bought my father. We use to play it for hours with my 2 sisters switching from one to the other since we only had to Speedking Joystick. Speedking that use to be the hell of a joystick

One of the few st games that supported 4 players. Ah classic stuff. "Red warrior is IT!", "Red warrior shot a food" :)

Oh my, where do I start? This has to be by far my favourite ST game of all time, I used to spend literally days playing this game. Out of all my hundreds of disks this must have been the one to see the most use. It came with my ST in the old Discovery pack and I later bought the boxed copy (I could provide a cover scan if needed, e-mail me at pete99@ntlworld.com ). A true classic arcade-perfect coversion of a brilliant game. I remember in this game you played as one of four different classic Dungeons-and-Dargons style characters: A mage, a Warrior, a Valkyrie or an Elf and you just went around chucking your weapons/magic at monsters. The game's levels were very much mazes where you had to find keys to open doors, and work your way around various traps to find the exit. Also there was the nice idea that all levels 6 and above were randomly picked, yet the enemies were more powerful according to how high the level number was, leter levels even containing Red Dragons which spat fire and took bloody ages to kill. There was also treasure around to be collected along with other powerups such as Reflective Shots, Limited Invisibility and even the ability to teleport through walls! Which also brings me to the next great feature about this game - the Dungeon Master voice! This game has some nice sampled voice effects, although not very well spoken (when the guy says "Red Valkyrie NOW Has Limited Transportability" it's just plain silly).#, which added some great atmosphere to the game, as if somebody was wathing over you. The characters were all nicely balanced too, with the Warrior being slow but extremely strong, the Wizard powerful yet weak, the Elf fast and slightly weak, and the Valkyrie as an all-rounder. The game's multiplayer was also a high point, with 4-player cooperative which was not often seen on the ST and was great fun with a group of friends. In all I give this game a perfect 10, as it is a true classic with an unbeatable fun facter and an extremely high replay factor (with over 100 levels, I never knew how far it really went on). Now if only my ST worked so I could play the damn thing again, as I can't find a disk image that works containing it.
