If you want a shoot'em up, play THIS.

The BOMB! Must play! I got the Demo at the Atari Fair in Düsseldorf and knew: this is something very very hot. I've not seen a better shooter on the ST yet and old Mad Max Hippel squeezed everything out of the dusty YM soundchip! That's pure love =)

Amazing game. My STe was happy with it (blitter and DMA are used)

When I first heard the title music for this game I knew that it was going to be something special. This game has some of the best music on an ST game. The graphics are good, the gameplay tough but addictive & the SFX are good too. All in all this happens to be one of the very best shooters ever!

Awesome in Every Way. Music, Graphics, Playability.

Stronger gameplay than the sequel. I guess I could say this is my second favorite shooter on the ST. (after Silkworm!!!)

I remeber playing this 2 days after having my ST and was hooked. It easily outdoes great shoot-em-ups such as Dragon Spirit, Super Alesete (AKA Space Megaforce) and SWIV ('Super' & 'Mega' Versions) and wipes the floor with other "Great" shoot-em-ups like Xenon 2, Flying Shark and Strikers 1945 II (On the playstation)

A MUST-PLAY game, one of the best ST shooters. Certainly inspired from Namco arcade hits Dragon Spirit & Dragon Saber (this inspiration can be heard in some of the tunes ;). Featuring state of the art code, music and graphics from the mighty Thalion crew. "Plea plea-plea plea-plea plea please wait!" ;)

I missed this game in the old days. Played it on Winston last night. I loved the surreal graphics and music. Resembles a Super Nintendo game called Space Megaforce, combined with Dragon Spirit, which I did play on the old ST. Wings of Death was much more fun than Dragon Spirit.

Definately a technological wonder, but I think xenon 2 beats it (Just) for gameplay after all, xenon 2 was the reason I even wanted an ST

Hmmm, the guys name should be Andreas Franz, sorry dude but you are the wrong one. Somehow I messed the names up, sorry...
Cyclone wrote ...2002-04-15 19:53:15
Wow, Andreas Franzen aka Ilja of Level 16, the father of the Atari overscan, the one who invented the technological base for sync-scrolling is totally right. WoD kicked us off our feet when we saw it on the ST. I would call it the very best Thalion ST game ever. All the guys from Tex, Gigabyte Crew and TCB, who worked for Thalion wrote cutting edge technology games. Enchanted Lands is my other Thalion Favourite for the ST. Great company, great games, nice people. P.S. @Andreas Franzen: We thank you for trashing your monitors with all that frequency changes. Without you, Enchanted Lands, Leavin' Teramis and Lethal Xcess, the sequel to the great Wings of Death, wouldn't have been possible.

Best Best .......what a game !!! :))
Feige wrote ...2002-02-20 11:04:50
Ooops..I meant: send those guys to hell who PLAY it with music turned off e.g who don't play it with music turned on....that is what happens when writing while having a WoD-orgasm...
Feige wrote ...2002-02-20 11:03:08
Yyyeeeaaahh!!!! What is the differnce between Xenon 2 and Wings of Death? Xenon 2 was unplayable, slow and had crap music. This one has Mad Max Digidrum-music and the VERY BEST soundtrack of all ST-Games (as tracker-MOD), very good gameplay (but a bit too many extra-lifes) and send those guys to hell who don't play WoD with music turned off! Playing this game is a 30-minutes orgasm!

Nothing short of genius. Especially the cheese- sorry thunderballs

I remember.... Very good shoot'em up... In the same category of "Xenon 2" A must to have...
guy ross wrote ...2001-12-19 16:13:44
a really nice little shoot-em-up that I still play on my emu :) awesome when you got the four-way beam weapon, Bwaah hah haaah!
Andreas Franzen wrote ...2001-12-14 01:47:23
Take a bunch of the best coders, graphic artists and music maker from the demo-scene. Then let them produce games. This is what you'll get. Thalion software were miles ahead of practically every other software company.
Mark Ashford wrote ...2001-11-06 06:09:23
This is, along with Xenon 2, probably the best shoot-em-up on the ST. It's enhanced on the STe too! I have completed this game and it's one tough challenge, but well worth the effort.
Matthias Arndt wrote ...2001-11-04 15:17:51
Technically one of the best ST shooters. This one rocks!
