Hardcore was never a full game, the only public release was a 5-level taster. Essentially you had 4 bases, on one each edge of the arena, and you would blast the varying waves of typically-YaKesque baddies in the middle. It was frenetic fun, a good laugh. Other than that, I cannot remember much. The game was never completed, as Jeff was hired by Atari to begin work on games for their then up-coming Jaguar.
